DARK CROP

all art. all outdoors. all night long!

The Dark Crop Performance Festival invites the audience to connect to the outdoors, the night sky, and art in a new environment they may not have been exposed to previously. Founded in 2017, the festival encourages artists to ask questions about what it means to perform outdoors, at night, away from the city and hopes that artists use the natural environment to heighten their stories and voices to a level they would not be able to reach in a traditional theatre venue. We created this festival to bring Canadian artists together, because of our love of the Canadian outdoors, and the connection we as performers can have with the land we’re performing on. We are also proud to create a platform for emerging artists to showcase new work and begin to develop their individual voices. For that reason, Dark Crop is very valuable in the continuation and growth of the Canadian theatre scene and, in turn, Canadian culture as a whole.

We’ve produced three festival so far - in 2017, 2018, and 2019. After three incredible festivals, we decided to take some time to gather our bearings and prepare to make Dark Crop everything we knew it could be! Then in 2020, the world of theatre shut down and we took the opportunity to work with professional companies to learn the necessary skills to come back to this project with a deeper understanding of how to make it a success. Well…three years later…and we’re feeling like it’s time to get out of the city, stay up all night, and see some new, exciting, site-specific, outdoor art! Keep your eyes peeled cause Dark Crop is coming back!
